Vicarious Trauma Training for Legal Teams

Legal professionals are often required to engage with distressing and traumatic material as part of their day-to-day work. Whether through witness statements, case files, client accounts, safeguarding concerns, criminal evidence or family proceedings, this exposure can have a cumulative impact over time.

This training is designed to help legal teams understand vicarious trauma in the context of legal practice, recognise early signs of impact, and develop practical strategies to reduce harm while continuing to work effectively and compassionately. I have delivered bespoke vicarious trauma training for legal professionals, including a long-running programme for Capsticks LLP.

Tailored to the realities of legal practice, these sessions are delivered in person to support deeper reflection, discussion and engagement with this sensitive area of work.

What does the training cover?

  • What vicarious trauma is, how it differs from stress and burnout

  • Recognising signs in ourselves, colleagues and teams

  • Practical strategies for safer ways of working with distressing material

  • Boundaries, supervision, debriefing and reflective practice

  • Creating a more trauma-aware legal workplace

  • Sessions can be delivered as a short awareness session, half-day workshop or full-day programme, and tailored for legal teams, managers or HR leads.
